Welcome!

Our Mission

Triad Restorative Justice is an emerging community resource based in Winston-Salem, NC, with a mission to advance peace, equity and trust in our communities by responding to conflict, crime and injustice with effective restorative practices, education and community building.

Black Lives Matter

Picture
At Triad Restorative Justice, we believe Black Lives Matter. While many restorative practices are thought of as methods for healing "interpersonal" harm, we also understand harm is perpetuated at systemic and intergenerational levels. We believe the BLM movement seeks to center the humanity of brothers, sisters, and siblings who have been harmed on both interpersonal, institutional, and intergenerational levels because of racism.

As Fania Davis explains, restorative justice work must be healing work and activism work. TRJ is actively reflecting on how to dismantle racism within ourselves, our organization, and our community. We embed this conversation and action within staff meetings, trainings, and how we design programs. We know we will not be perfect at this work, and we welcome feedback if and when we perpetuate harm despite our intentions.

COVID-19 Update

Medical experts say that the more we can stay home, the better we can protect vulnerable individuals in our community and more impact we can have on flattening the curve.

To support our community’s efforts to respond proactively to Covid-19 and to show care for others, Triad Restorative Justice is cancelling most of our in-person gatherings until we feel that gathering together is safe for our community.  Where possible, we will be continuing our work via phone and videoconferencing.

While we won’t planning for community events, that doesn’t mean we won’t be working. The core of our organization is all about relationships. First and foremost, we want to make sure we are maintaining the relationships we have with others, especially as many people in our community will be experiencing social isolation and disconnection.

If you would like to participate in a virtual circle using an online meeting program, or if you would just like a phone call from someone to talk, send an email to hello@triadrj.org.

What is Restorative Justice?

The strength of our relationships determines the strength of our community, and how we respond to conflict, crime, and injustice influences how well we can recover from the harm that has been caused. Restorative justice approaches to conflict focus on healing the harm by addressing the needs of everyone involved and holding people accountable to repair the harm they have caused. Relationships and strong community connection are essential to the restorative justice process.
