We believe Black Lives Matter. While many restorative practices are thought of as methods for healing interpersonal harm, we understand harm is perpetuated at systemic and intergenerational levels. We believe the BLM movement seeks to center the humanity of brothers, sisters, and siblings who have been harmed on both interpersonal, institutional, and intergenerational levels because of racism.
As Fania Davis explains, restorative justice work must be healing work and activism work. We reflect on how to dismantle racism within ourselves, our organization, and our community. We embed reflection within staff meetings, training, and designing programs. We know we will not be perfect at this work, and we welcome feedback if and when we perpetuate harm. |
